Prof. Eng. Badru Kiggundu

Eng. Dr. Prof. Badru M. Kiggundu is a distinguished Ugandan civil engineer, academic , and national leader with more than five decades of service in engineering, higher education, and public administration. Born on 1st January 1945, he received his early education at Kabasanda Primary School, Kibuli Secondary School and Nabumali High School before pursuing advanced studies in the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Science and PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Mexico, and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
Eng. Dr. Prof. Badru KM. Kiggundu served as a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Technology at Makerere University, where he contributed to engineering education, research and mentorship. Internationally, he worked with the New Mexico Engineering Research Institute, conducting research on pavements and engineering materials that informed global practice. His professional career spans major infrastructure projects in Uganda, including leadership roles in road construction, urban engineering, and technical consultancy.
He has held several high impact national positions, notably serving as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Uganda(2002-2016) and Chairperson of the Project Steering Committee for the Karuma and Isimba Hydropower projects under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. He also served as Chairman of the Board of National Water and Sewerage Corporation and Senior Presidential Advisor on Infrastructure and public works, contributing significantly to governance, infrastructure development, and national planning.
A Fellow of the Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers (UIPE) and registered engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB), Eng. Dr. Prof. Badru M. Kiggundu has championed ethical engineering, professional standards, and capacity building within the engineering sector. His career reflects deep commitment to academic excellence, national development, and service to the Republic of Uganda.
