The major objective of the company is to commercialize the assets of the University with the sole aim of raising revenue to subsidize government funding to the University. The University with support from the Arab Republic of Egypt has established a solar PV power plant with capacity to supply 4mw of energy. It has been licensed by the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) to generate and sell electricity.

Busitema University (BU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South African National Space Agency (SANSA) on 22 nd July 2022 in support of a collaborative space science research. Eng. Jonathan Ward, data manager at SANSA visited BU on 29 th November 2022, to install the multi-constellation and multi-frequency global navigation satellite system (GNSS) based Scintillation Network Decision Aid (SCINDA) receiver. This development was announced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs (DVC-AA) of BU (i.e. Prof. Samuel Baker Kucel) in his welcome remark during the stakeholder’s engagement held at its faculty of science and education (FSE) located at Nagongera campus in Tororo district. The stakeholder meeting on 30 th November 2022 that was attended by faculty staff, students, management and media fraternity. Prof. Kucel appeals to the campus management to ensure that the equipment is guarded from vandalism and misuse. Meanwhile, the faculty Dean of Nagongera campus Prof. David olema Kani disclosed that the faculty experts are working hard with National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) to train space science teachers to implement the lower secondary School curriculum. The Dean urged stakeholders to support the BUSSI initiative to promote space science and technology advancements. Space science is the key to the future, and Uganda should have its place in the future” said the faculty Dean (Prof. Olema). Dr. Amabayo Emirant Bertillas (Head of Physics Department) presented the road map of BU space science institute (BUSSI). He pointed that the institute has approved staff establishment and the innovative models at BUSSI will accurately predict and forecast weather and climate patterns. These will be useful in issuing warnings to communities and government for quick response to loss of life and property due to bad weather. Physics department is in touch with Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) management to sign an MoU for partnership in building capacity in the country. Dr. Andima Geoffrey presented BUSSI project on “Tuning Space Weather Models from Research to Applications”. He explained the ideology, objectives, benefits of our model for predicting ionospheric total electron content (TEC) over Uganda. Similar technique will be applied to our real time data to improve weather and climate models and disaster mapping over Uganda.

Busitema University Guild President Voted, Swears in

Busitema University Guild Elections took place on 29th/11/2022 and two candidates contested for the position of Guild president. These were Mr. Owera Emmanuel and Mr. Kinene Wahab. Mr. Owera Emmanuel reg no BU/UP/2021/2340 Bachelor of Fisheries and Water Resources Management year two student emerged the winner with 65.8% against Kinene Wahab who got 33.3% of the total votes casted. Swearing in and handover took place on 2nd December 2022 at Busitema Campus, Faculty of Engineering Main Hall. The swearing in was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Waako and Members of Top Management.

The Busitema University Convocation held a mentorship session with final year students of Busitema University on Saturday 3rd December 2022. The Finalist Work-Mentorship Seminar was held in conjunction with the International Youth Fellowship. This was officiated by the Ag.Deputy Vice Chancellor(F&A) Dr Biira Saphina. The Convocation Chairperson Eng. Badru Musinguzi emphasized the role of mentorship in work preparation.

Busitema University Student tops StartHub Africa Student Innovators, bags Ugx 2.5M

Busitema University Student emerges top winner in the National Inter-University pitch event at StartHub Africa Launchpad. The innovator of the “NedTech” emerged the winner out of the 12 student innovators from six different universities in Uganda. NedTech, an innovation that offers a networked temperature sensor. This innovation won Shs2.5 million as a grant to further its operations.

Busitema University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International University of East Africa (IUEA). The partnership aims to develop great and broad effective cooperation in the Agriculture, mining and other areas of mutual benefit. The signing of the collaboration agreement was on 24th November, 2022 at the IUEA and coincided with the 9th Graduation ceremony of IUEA. The theme of the graduation ceremony was “Education for Climate Change Action”. The Busitema University Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Waako represented the Chief Guest. 

The MoU serves to strengthen inter-university cooperation and collaboration in different areas of academic endeavors. The partnership recognizes the importance of providing an excellent education that includes practical experience and skills to the students in each of the universities. Further, the collaboration will enhance economic development and the achievement of food security, on the basis of academic cooperation, technology, and knowledge sharing.

Dr. Samuel Baker Obakiro, Head of Department of Pharmacology and the Principal Investigator of the Natural Products Research and Innovation Centre (NaPRiC) will make a presentation on African Medicine Research internationalization plenary; A case of Busitema University Uganda.
