Course Unit Description

The course unit is designed as a general introduction to the broad aspects of computer systems, Information system, introduction to computer operations and computer applications software.

Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are to:

  • Give students a broad understanding of computers and their uses
  • Introduce the students to Information and Communication technologies
  • To introduce the students to application software in general
  • To differentiate between sets of application software
  • To make use of the different computer application software to solve day-to-day problems

Expected Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course unit, the students should be able to:

  • Describe the computer system and its sub-systems and other devices or peripherals and the internet
  • Create, use and manage directories and files within the Windows or Linux/Unix
  • Identify various computer devices
  • Describe and classify the different types of software
  • Use the computer to perform various tasks in organization
