Course Unit Description

The course introduces students to the process of conducting fair and objective assessment language abilities. The course is aimed at enabling students to prepare, administer, measure and evaluate students’ language abilities. Students are exposed to various forms of language testing.

Course Objectives 

  • To give students an overview of the concepts in evaluation of language abilities 
  • To expose learners to the forms of language assessment and evaluation 
  • To acquaint learners with the techniques of constructing language test items

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to: 

  • Explain various concepts in evaluation of language abilities
  • Discuss and evaluate various forms of language testing
  • Explain the role of educational objectives in establishing valid and reliable test
  • Discuss qualities of a good language test
