BIS2104 Optics and waves
Course Unit Title
BIS2104 Optics and waves
Course Unit Description
The course covers Principles of geometrical optics; reflection and refraction, thin lenses and optical instruments. It also considers the difference types of waves, wave phenomena (reflection, refraction, diffraction and interference), wave motions and propagation
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Appreciate the principles of optics
- Describe the characteristics of images formed by concave and convex mirrors;
- Explain the characteristics of phenomena caused by reflection and refraction and solve problems
- Describe Oscillations
- Explain waves and their characteristics
- Describe the effect of reflection of waves and its applications
Expected Learning out comes
At the end of the course the teachers should be able to:
- Explain the principles of optics
- Identify the characteristics of images formed by mirrors (Convex and concave)
- Explain the terms used in Oscillations and waves
- Describe waves and their characteristics
- Discus the effects of reflection of waves – and applications
