Course Unit Description
The use of projects and project management is becoming more and more important for all kinds of organizations. Businesses regularly use project management to accomplish unique outcomes under the constraints of resources, and project management turn to be one of essential ways of achieving an organization’s strategy. This course addresses the basic nature of managing general projects, not specially focuses on one type of project, no matter construction projects or R&D projects. The course uses the project life cycle as the organizational guideline, and contents will cover the whole process of project management, including project initiation, project planning, project implementation and project termination
Course objectives
To enable students acquire knowledge on:
- The PMI framework and architecture
- How to write an IT Project Charter, Business Case and Scope Statement
- How to choose/build a project specific life cycle
- How to identify and document project requirements
- How to develop a Work Breakdown Structure
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Understand the PMI framework and its set of project management best practices.
- Be fluent in IT project management terminology
- Be introduced to the analysis of IT Project Life Cycles and SDLC models
- Identify and analyze why IT projects fail and what skills are required to implement projects successfully
- Practice with the identification of project deliverables, requirements, and objectives
- Identify and analyze project stakeholders and project communications
- Have a comprehensive understanding of how the various project management elements integrate into an effective mechanism for project planning and execution
