Course Unit Description
The public has entrusted in engineers a level of responsibility because the systems they design (whether x-ray machines, air traffic control systems, or nuclear power plants) affect the public directly and indirectly. Therefore, it is incumbent upon Electronic and Electrical engineers to exercise the utmost conscientiousness in their designs and implementations of systems. As such, graduates should have an understanding of the responsibilities associated with engineering practice, including the professional, societal, and ethical context in which they do their work.
Course objective(s)
- The course is intended to enable students develop a comprehension of professional ethics. Also, students should develop skills to identify, analyze and address gender issues in innovations, technology designs, development, transfer and technology utilization.
Learning Outcomes
After taking this course, student shall be able to:
- Understand ethical issues as pertains Electronic and Electrical engineers
- Appreciate and respect human rights
- Differentiate and discuss the various terms related to gender and engineering practice
- Apply skills of gender analysis and gender mainstreaming to engineering policy and regulation processes for production and consumption of engineering systems.
- Comprehend agenda issues, and appreciate the need for being gender sensitive
