Course Unit Description

The Project and Programme Management course takes a holistic approach to determine how to manage projects and programmes through their life cycles and within their scope/ context. This course provides the student with understanding of the fundamentals of project management and helps participants to understand how a project is conceptualized and initiated in support of the strategy and plans of the organization.  The course focuses on the design, development, and implementation of programs and projects. It describes the unfolding issues that are making project management critical to organization success. 

Objectives of the course 

  • Enable develop technical and socio-cultural skills and managing the interactions among them, and they would be better equipped to lead programs and projects.
  • Prepare project and programme plans to meet objectives and requirements 
  • Manage a project and/ or programme through its life cycle
  • Develop and maintain project documentation to support achievement of project objectives 
  • Use tools and techniques to support decision-making and reporting processes 

 

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students should be able to

  • Demonstrate an understanding of focused program and project management and their application and context within an organization
  • Analyse how a project is conceptualized and initiated in support of the strategy and plans of the organization
  • Have basic skill on how to:
  1. Relate plans, programs, projects and organization strategy
  2. Apply the fundamental principles of project management
  3. Plan, schedule and control a project 
  4. Organize the  project team and manage stakeholders
  5. Manage a project by results rather than activities
  6. Apply various project management tools and techniques
  7. Apply the processes and methodologies of project management
