Course Unit Description

The procurement function and field of study is increasingly occupying a significant in management of organisations, given its role in identifying value sources of goods and services, strengthen relationships with supply chain partners, and ensure timely delivery. This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to basic concepts and issues in procurement and supply chain management. In addition, the course also introduces students to the principles of purchasing and supply chain management used in organizations. It describes the various techniques that are useful in an organization. The course aims to enable students to:

  • Understand purchasing and supply chain principles and appreciate the role it plays in ensuring accurate, timely and constant supply of goods and services to Organisations.  
  • Appreciate the role of Procurement and supply management in today’s competitive business environment through cost efficiency and quality. 
  • To enable students appreciate the emerging changes in purchasing in light of the new technology and business environment changes 

 

Learning Outcomes
 At the end of the course, students;

  • Describe the principles and processes of procurement and supplies management. 
  • Analyse the theories of purchasing and relate their current approach and relevance to organisations. 
  • Relate the functioning of the purchasing department to other functional areas in the organization
  • Apply the principles of procurement in organization.
