APM 1206 Pasture and Range Management
Course Unit Description
This course introduces the student to important aspects of pasture and range management as well as pasture establishment and rangeland improvement, livestock production systems, land use and management in Uganda.
Course Objectives
- To explain the use and rationale of rangeland environments and their management, Land use management and livestock production Systems.
- To introduce students to improved pasture plants, their establishment, management and preservation.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:
- Name and identify thee different range plants
- Appreciate the current state of the rangelands in the face of climate change
- Describe the use and rationale of rangeland management; rangeland ecology & management
- Describe the existing Agro-ecological zones, livestock production systems and Land use management in Uganda’s rangelands.
- Know the new and improved pasture plants as well as pasture establishment and management.
- Explore novel ways of encouraging resilience and sustainability of the rangelands and its activities.
