APM 1204 Animal Nutrition
Course Unit Description
This course introduces nutrition as a process of generating farm products. Energy partitioning and metabolism together with a description of feed stuffs in the tropics and sub-tropics are some of the areas of emphasis here.
Course Objectives
- To expose the students to global trends in nutrition as relating to farm animal practice
- To impart knowledge of the principal anti-nutritional factors and harmful substances in feed and their carry over to animals and humans
- To explain energy partitioning and energy evaluation systems in a farm setting.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:
- Know the animal nutrition problems and needs in Uganda and other countries.
- Appreciate the special species adaptation to nutritional stress
- Make feeds and manage feeding situations in a commercial farm setting
- Know the animal nutrition resources available in Uganda.
