AGB 2104 Dairy Production and Management
Course Unit Description
This course will involve aspects of dairy production and management and includes introduction to dairy management; economic importance of dairy; dairy breeds; systems of dairy animal management and housing; nutrition, breeding and dairy animal health.
Course objective
The major objective of this course unit is to equip learners with essential theoretical and practical skills to enable them start up or promote dairy production as an agribusiness enterprise
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course unit, the learner should be able to:
- Appreciate the role of dairy production in economic development
- Understand the basic factors necessary for starting up a dairy enterprise and factors that favour the dairy industry in Uganda.
- Understand the problems facing dairy farmers in Uganda and possible solutions
- Practically start up or advice a farmer on how to start up a simple dairy enterprise and manage it well basing on the solid theoretical and practical skills gained from this course unit.
