Course Unit Description


This course is to introduce learners to the principles of livestock production and management, specifically looking at management, nutrition, housing, breeding and health management.

Course Objective

  • To provide the students with technical skills (hands-on) and theoretical background about livestock management procedures
  • To equip students with competences for delivery of services to practitioners engaged in livestock management and for those actively working in production of livestock
  • To equip students with knowledge and skills of assessing economic and environmental issues affecting sustainable livestock farming.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, a student should be able to:

  • Appreciate  the knowledge and technical skills in livestock management
  • Adequately advice farmers on issues of livestock management.
