Course Unit Description

This course explores issues of educational, vocational guidance and counseling in schools.  A student teacher is introduced to theories of counseling and their application in a school situation.

Course objectives
By the end of the course, a student shall be able to:

  • Differentiate between guidance and counseling.
  • Analyze similarities and differences between various counseling approaches.
  • Identify qualities of an effective counselor
  • Highlight concerns of student that require the use of guidance and counseling.

Expected outcomes

  • To have a teacher who is both a good guide and effective counselor.  
  • Also a teacher who is able address the challenges of adolescents in schools.
