Course Unit Description

The course is based on the principle that learning is a lifelong and continuous process and teachers and learners in the field. The course promotes the growth in human potential and development of teachers. It is aimed at promoting positive attitudes in teachers’ trainees towards continuous professional development.

 

Course Objectives
The course should be able to lead students to be able to:

  • Define the concept of a profession in teaching
  • Explain the importance of teachers as teachers and researchers.
  • Discuss the possibility of staff development
  • Explain the role of teachers in Education
  • Discuss the factors that promote or hinder professional development.
  • Trace the origin of supervision and inspection in Uganda’s education system
  • Identify government bodies charged with the Education supervision and Inspection.
  • Describe the qualities of a good Inspector/supervisor

Learning outcomes 

  • Graduates who took this course shall be able to: 
  • Examine and critique various professional practices for purposes of improvement
  • Plan their own professional growth and development in the profession.
  • Uphold the teachers’ code of conduct at all times.
