Course Unit Description


In this course, student teachers focus on how to prepare and effectively teach Biology to secondary school students.  The course includes an in-depth analysis of types of syllabi, preparation of schemes of work and lesson plans, peer teaching and the use of computers to teach secondary school Biology.
 

Course Objectives
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

  • Differentiate the three types of syllabi i.e. national teaching syllabus; school teaching syllabus and a “UNEB syllabus”.
  • Prepare detailed scheme of work for any school Biology topic.
  • Explain factors which influence a Biology teacher’s choice of instructional methods.
  • Acquire skills needed to effectively use the computer in the teaching and learning of secondary school Biology.
