Course Unit Description

Course Description
This marine engineering course covers types of power plants, auxiliary engines, propulsion systems, pumps, and cooling systems. You'll learn about thrust bearings, shafts, bearings, tubes, and propellers, as well as the construction, performance, and characteristics of displacement and rotodynamic pumps. The course also covers heat exchangers and central cooling systems.s.

Learning outcomes:
At the end of the course, the learner can:

  • Apply the abstract function analysis of the marine machine systems
  • Analyze information and generate concepts for arbitrary marine machinery systems.
  • Evaluate concepts and develop a general layout of a machinery system.
  • Explain and evaluate the effects of interaction between hull and propeller and how this affects
  • the propeller design.
  • Demonstrate equipment reliability, fuel-efficient engines, auto-machinery, and a few marines
  • engineering crew all for a cost-effective operation of the ship
