Course Unit Description

This course introduces the students to clinical clerkship pediatrics. Students will spend most of the time on the wards participating in patient care. Emphasis will be on mastering clinical skills particularly history taking, examining patients, investigation of patients, interpretation of laboratory results and essential surgical procedures, setting a patient management plan and communication to the patient including counseling.  
 
Course objectives 
By the end of this course unit, the students should be able to;

  • develop skills in assessing pediatric patients
  • describe the process of outpatient and in-patient care
  • develop skills in carrying out essential clinical procedures
  • describe the management of pediatric emergencies
  • develop skills in palliative care
