Course Unit Description

This course is designed to equip Students with the knowledge, skills and competences for conducting a Community Public Health Acute and Emergency Response. This course presents the fundamental concepts of hazard identification and vulnerability assessment to determine public health risk for emergency planning purposes. The main aspects of human health risk assessment will be covered. The components of risk assessment will be explained and applications of each component and of risk assessment as a whole will be discussed. The Students will acquire competences to operate efficiently during an incident, outbreak or event in the community. 
 
Aim  

The overall aim of this programme is to train Students on community public health acute and emergency response.  
 
Course objectives  
At the end of this course, the Students will be well refined in: 

  • Investigate a public health emergency  
  • Conduct an emergency assessment  
  • Initiate case definitions 
  • Develop skills to communicate on a community outbreak situation 
     

Expected course outcome 
Application of acquired understanding, knowledge, skills and competences in: 

  • Public Health disease response. 
  • Community response to outbreak.
