PHY7101: Mathematical Methods in Physics
Course Unit Title
PHY7101: Mathematical Methods in Physics
Course Unit Description
This course will entail mathematical concepts, principles and methods which are a prerequisite for other postgraduate Physics courses. The course will exhaustively cover Operators, functions and numerical analysis, with physics-related examples.
Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are to:
- Describe operators and discuss operator formulism in finite and infinite vector spaces.
- Explain functions of complex variables and their applications in real situations.
- Describe the special functions and their applications in physics.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:
- Define and formulate operators in finite and infinite dimensional spaces
- Solve functions of complex variable in real situations
- Derive special functions and apply them to physics problems.
