Course Unit Description

This course covers important elements in the production of pigs and production of poultry and nutrition on the farm.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • select suitable breeds of pigs for keeping depending on the market demands and the farmer's managerial ability.
  • use management practices in the rearing of piglets, fatteners, sows and boers
  • demonstrate the practical skills in the feeding of pigs of any age groups
  • select suitable breeds of poultry for keeping depending on the market demands and the farmer's managerial ability
  • demonstrate the practical skills in the feeding of poultry of any age groups
  • select suitable breed of poultry for egg production and meat production
  • manage a flock of laying birds from day old chicks to the laying period and culling.
