Course Unit Description

The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the nutrition of farm animals and with the feedstuffs and a system of their evaluation, and with the use of feed additives. Students should learn to take samples of feed, perform their fundamental analysis in the chemical laboratory and examine samples of feed in terms of quality. Students should be able to consider animal nutrition and feeding problems and make qualified decisions.

  • A capability to apply knowledge and skills concerning feedstuffs and calculation of feeding rations in practice
  • Ability to assess the appropriateness of treatment and preservation of foods for certain species and categories of animals
  • Ability to define the essential nutrients in animal body and know their functions, needs and resources.
  • Ability to characterize each individual feed and assess their suitability and safety for the different types and categories of livestock
  • Ability to use knowledge on feeds to create the feed formulation and feed rations for individual livestock
