MID8101 Hydrology
Course Unit Title
MID8101 Hydrology
Course Unit Description
The course aims at giving an overview of interaction between climatological factors and land resources. The course focuses on the hydrologic cycle principles and processes, rainfall patterns and their various interpolation; water balances, instrumentation for hydrology and procedures for hydrological data collection, statistical analysis of hydrological data and hydrological models.
Course Objectives
- To explain the principles of the hydrological cycle and processes;
- To explain the concept of catchment water balances and the principles of reservoir operation;
- To explain instrumentation for hydrology and procedures for hydrological data collection
- To explain statistical analysis of hydrological data
- To apply hydrological models in estimation of hydrological parameters and development of relationships.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants are able to:
- Understand the hydrological cycle, principles and processes for effective management of water resources;
- Assess the hydrological resources for irrigation applications.
- Apply appropriate hydrological analysis to generate parameters for effective design of irrigation and drainage systems and their components.
