Course Unit Description

Project planning and Management cuts across all disciplines. It is therefore imperative for fisheries resource managers to understand how development project interventions can be appraised, designed, implemented, monitored and evaluated. Therefore, the course introduces students to concepts, methods, techniques and dynamics of appraising, implementing, monitoring and evaluating projects in the field of fisheries resources. The course will take the following into consideration: Emerging challenges that many planners and project managers’ experience, why most projects fail, discuss the project cycle with emphasis on project appraisal, the dynamics of project management and project budgeting and evaluation.

Course objectives
By the end of this course the student will be able to;

  • Learn about the skills to prepare, appraise, implement, monitor and evaluate development projects.
  • Appreciate the role of ethics, integrity, and objectivity in stakeholder engagement and project implementation
  • Learn about how to design an integrated project management system within an organisation

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, the student should demonstrate capacity to:

  • Conduct project appraisals, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Incorporate ethics and integrity issues in project management.
  • Design an integrated project management system within in an organizational setting.
