Course Unit Description
This compulsory course covers the relationship between Energy and the Environment. It looks at natural energy cycles and how Man’s activities affect the environment - and consequently, the sustainability of these activities.
Aims
- To bring all students to a common understanding of energy flows in ecosystems
- To introduce students to concepts of sustainability and ethics in relation to other living things
- To make students aware of the energy potential in solid and other waste
Learning Outcomes
- Students identify natural energy stores, transformations and transfers in living things
- Students design energy systems with ethical and sustainability concerns in mind
- Students design energy extraction and/or conservation systems from waste
