SEE8203 Energy and Environment (compulsory subject in semester 2)

This compulsory course covers the relationship between Energy and the Environment. It looks at natural energy cycles and how Man’s activities affect the environment - and consequently, the sustainability of these activities.

Aims

• To bring all students to a common understanding of energy flows in ecosystems
• To introduce students to concepts of sustainability and ethics in relation to other living things
• To make students aware of the energy potential in solid and other waste

Learning Outcomes

• Students identify natural energy stores, transformations and transfers in living things 
• Students design energy systems with ethical and sustainability concerns in mind
• Students design energy extraction and/or conservation systems from waste
