Course Unit Description

This course provides you with a detailed insight on the determinants of women’s, new born, child and adolescent health across the life span. The course also covers aspects of sexual and reproductive health including equity and justice. The course covers issues related to the perinatal period, inter-conception care, child health including mental health and special needs; youth and adolescent development. You will be given opportunity to internalise the key interventions in women health and how they are being rolled out.

Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course the student should be able;

  • Describe the causes and determinants of maternal new born and child morbidity and mortality
  • Conduct disease surveillance for women and children  
  • Explain the gender dynamics in maternal, new born and child health
  • Conduct viable research in maternal, new born and child health 
  • Design implement, monitor and evaluate maternal, new born and child health programs
