Course Unit Description

More and more companies are outsourcing large “pieces” of projects to third parties. This course provides the basics for effectively managing the cost and financial aspects of the project. Through group discussion, workshops and real-world examples, participants use tools and basic methods for identifying, estimating, tracking and managing all project costs. 

Course Objectives
This course is intended to help students to:

  • Learn project cost concepts and classifications, cost assignments for both direct and indirect costs
  • Explain project cost accumulation methods such as; Absorption costing, Variable costing and Activity based costing (ABC)
  • Explain project budgeting process, the basic framework of budgeting and budgeting techniques such as activity based and Zero based budgeting techniques.
  • Learn methods of carrying out project cash flow analysis

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Describe project cost concepts and evaluate project cost classifications and assignments
  • Prepare project budgets using budgeting techniques such as Activity and Zero based budgeting techniques
  • Apply project cost accumulation costing techniques
  • Carry out project cash flow analysis.
