Course Unit Description

The course will help students to gain skills in preparation and interpretation of accounting transactions. The course will cover regulatory framework and accounting principles and standards.  Students will also learn preparation of financial statements as per international financial reporting framework. They will also gain knowledge of end of year adjustments in accounting and making provisions for depreciation and disposal. The course will also provide students with skills for preparing financial statements for partnerships and Non-profit making organizations. 

Course Objectives
The main course objectives will be;

  • Understanding the accounting process and regulatory framework that guide preparation and recording of accounting transactions
  • Explain the process of preparing financial statements
  • Understand the transactions required for making end of the year adjustments
  • Explain how accounting transactions are recorded in non-profit-making organizations
  • Understand how companies design dividend policies

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • Describe users of accounting Information and types of regulatory framework of accounting
  • Record transactions under the double entry system and Construct a trial balance. 
  • Prepare Bank reconciliation statements
  • Prepare financial statements for in line with the international financial reporting framework
