DCP2102 Insect Farming

This course involves the study of farming systems in which woody perennials (free and shrubs) are deliberately grown under the same land management with agricultural crops or animals where they are both ecologically and economically interacting. It also involves the different ways of producing good quality processed honey.

Course Objectives

• To explain the biology of insects and site selection for insect  farming
• To manage bees for honey production
• To manage insects for income production

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the students should be able to: 

• Explain the biology of insects of economic value and be able to manage an  insect farm
• produce and process honey for various uses
• Manage an apiary enterprize
• Add value to various honey products
• Breed and produce various insects of interest for human and animal feeds
