Course Unit Description
This Course introduces the student to the concept of Extension education and the various approaches used in extension education. It also looks at a holistic approach in communication with a focus on the effective use and handling of communication situations, that students find themselves in both the professional and personal environments. This course focuses on the communication processes and key elements as well as exploring linkages between perception, personality, and communication including non-verbal communication.
Course Objectives
- To equip students with principles of agricultural extension, program and project planning, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
- To train students on farmer Field school methodologies and the other approaches used in extension education.
- To impart knowledge on communication techniques, processes and styles
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:
- Explain the role of extension in rural development, plan agricultural extension programs, projects and execute them.
- Train farmers using the farmer field schools approach as well as other extension approaches.
- Use different communication methods to package, deliver/ disseminate information appropriately
