DTB1201 Teaching Science and Practical Work

This course will cover methods of teaching science in the primary schools, assessment and types of assessment including a discussion of theories that describe learning of science.

Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to:

• Employ and use appropriate methods in teaching science
• Identify and use various assessment styles in primary schools
• List aims of practical work, classify and identify types of practical work
• Identify and practice safety precautions while doing practical
• Organize, manage and do science practical
• Critique the state of practical work in Ugandan schools and suggest ways for improvement
• Use locally available materials to develop and do science practical
• Identify state and explain various types of learning theories
• Use Piaget's stages of cognitive development to investigate pupils' learning of science.
