DHB1102 Atomic structure and periodic Table I

This unit will cover the structure of atom and its evidence for the structure as well as introduction about periodic table.  Periodicity and chemistry of groups I to III will be covered.

Objectives
By the end of the unit, students should be able to:

• Describe the structure of the atom.
• Write electronic configuration of elements.
• Define the terms:  Periodicity, Ionization Energy, Electro negativity, Electro positivity, Electron Affinity, Periods and Groups 
• Predict the position of some elements in the periodic table.
• State general properties of elements; Outline the importance of some elements and their compounds.
• Describe the extraction of some elements.
