Course Unit Description

This unit will review basic ideas in chemistry which students have covered both at Ordinary Level and Grade III College in chemistry and science respectively.  Definition of basic terms, units of measurements, statement of common gas laws and their applications will be reviewed.  This will help to prepare students for more complicated and abstract work in the proceeding units.

Objectives
By the end of the unit, students should be able to:

  • Define some of the basic terms in chemistry.
  • Describe changes (physical and chemical changes) and give examples of each.
  • State the laws of gases
  • Explain how gas laws may be used to predict the behavior of gases.
  • Explain the mole concept, Relative atomic mass and how they can be used in calculations
