Course Unit Description
This cause involves the study of farming systems in which woody perennials (trees and shrubs) are deliberately grown under the same land management with agricultural crops, trees or animals where they all ecologically and economically interacting. It also involves the different ways of producing good quality processes honey from bees.
Course Objectives
- The student to know the practical involved in agro forestry and beekeeping
- Explain agro forestry and entomoforestry practices that can be used to improve land use and income.
- To explain the biology of bees and site selection for apiary production.
- To manage bees for honey production.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the cause the student should be able to
- Explain the concept of agro forestry as a sustainable land use system.
- Raise and manage of tree nurseries for establishment of various agroforestry systems.
- Identify and explain factors that influence the adoption of agroforestry in Uganda
- To produce and process honey for various uses.
