This module will include: History of extension, Philosophy and Principles of extension, Extension worker, Extension methods, Extension materials and devices, Leadership, Group dynamics, Government extension policies, introduction rural sociology, communication.

Course Objectives
To make students understand the principles and concepts of extension education.
To equip students with knowledge and skills in selection and use of extension methods.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student should be able to:

To equip students with knowledge on:

  • Socio-cultural and technological factors in relation to food and agricultural production and development and
  • Socio-cultural and technological changes diffusion as drivers of change in agricultural technology and decision-making.
  • importance of extension as process of technology diffusion and change in subsistence farming
  • farming structure in relationship to the elements of extension services and sources of information, as strategies for change in farming,
  • monitoring and evaluation of extension programmes
