Course Unit Description

This course is to introduce learners to the principles of livestock production and management, types of livestock, different livestock production systems in Uganda, importance of livestock to farmers and their relevance in the economy, basics of livestock management, livestock facilities, general livestock routine management procedures, dairy cattle management, sheep and goat management, management of beef animals

Course Objective

  • This course equips students with the skills of livestock production and management.

Learning outcomes

  • provide the students with technical skills (hands-on) and theoretical background about livestock management procedures; 
  • equip students with competences for delivery of services to practitioners engaged in livestock management and for those actively working in production of livestock,
  • equip students with knowledge and skills of assessing economic and environmental issues affecting sustainable livestock farming.
