Side Navigation

Course Unit Description

The course deals with energetics of inorganic ionic and covalent compounds and factors affecting their stability. The practical work deals with principles of synthesis of some inorganic compounds.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the students should be able to:

  • Quantify thermodynamic energy changes
  • Differentiate between the different forms of bond energy
  • Describe the application of energetics to the extraction of metals and aspects of their purification
  • Determine some energy terms from thermochemical cycles.
  • Use given guidelines to synthesize some inorganic compounds.

Expected outcomes

  • Students will adequately gain knowledge of inorganic chemistry
  • Improved subject content command and skills for teaching inorganic chemistry
  • Improved understanding of the energies that are involved in the realization of a chemical reaction
