Course Unit Description
This course introduces the learner to the chemistry of elements in the d-block of the periodic table.
Course objectives
By the end of the course, learners should be able to;
- State and explain the general characteristics of transition metals
- Explain valence bond and molecular orbital theories
- Outline the chemistry of the first transition metal series with emphasis on the structure, and reactions of oxides and halides
- Compare the chemistry of the 2nd and 3rd transition series
- Outline the chemistry of Lanthanides and Actinides
