CHM2103 Stereochemistry
Course Unit Title
CHM2103 Stereochemistry
Course Unit Description
This course covers basic principles stereochemistry including optical and geometrical isomerism, Enantiomerism, absolute and relative configurations, chirality, and geometrical isomerism. The stereochemistry of nucleophilic substitution reactions, addition and elimination reactions are discussed.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Explain qualitatively isomerism in organic molecules
- Identify chiral and achiral molecules
- Explain rotation of polarized light by organic compounds
- Interpret stereochemistry of organic compounds and implications on organic reactions
- Identify enantiomers and assign configuration
- Explain the stereochemistry of some reaction
