Course Unit Description
Industrial statistics involves collection, classification and analysis of data relating to industrial economic activities. The major topics covered include: Industrial Classification, Other Types of Classification, Index of Industrial Production, Input-Output Table, Sources and Methods of Obtaining Industrial Statistics, and Environmental and Human Settlement Statistics.
General Course Objectives
By the end of the course, the participants should be in a good position to:
- To classify different industries as mining, quarrying, manufacturing, electricity, gas and water.
- To use other means of classification including central production classification
- To compute levels of significance involving differences between two means
- To define Net-output and identify applications of index in industrial production
- To compute related indexes including average annual growth
- To categorize various source of statistics as primary and secondary
- To state the requirements for National Account
- To identify linkages in economy, environment and society
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- Identify the sources of industrial Statistics.
- Specify the type of industrial Statistical data collected and the different statistical Unit
- Classify economic activities using guidelines of the International Standards Industrial Classification.
- Compute and Interpret indices measuring industrial production and money earning
- Explain the inter-relationships among the producing and consuming production sectors.
