Course Unit Description

The course explores preparation and techniques of teaching secondary school students.  It includes marking scheme of work, lesson plans and lesson notes.  The course explores the concept of learning different types of learning styles and the role of the teacher in the guiding process.

Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to

  • Explain the concept of education
  • Explain the concept of learning
  • Describe the factors that affect learning.
  • Analyze the different learning styles and how these affect teaching methods
  • Explain the nature and components of teaching
  • Analyze the concept of teaching as a profession and locate themselves as future professional teachers.
  • Plan and construct scheme of work and lesson plans
  • Describe the qualities of a good 21st century teacher
  • Select the vast teaching methods to use in teaching various topics
  • Apply the various classroom management and control strategies
