STA3201 Statistical Computing
Course Unit Title
STA3201 Statistical Computing
Course Unit Description
This unit will utilize the readily available software, R. R is a Statistical computer program distributed free of charge under the General Public License, GPL. It exists for all operating systems, and R provides an environment in which one can perform statistical analysis accompanied by an elaborate graphical display and it is always possible for one to carry out further computations on the results of a statistical procedure.
General Course Objectives
The course is expected to discuss practical skills of data analysis to the learners and therefore on successful completion of this course unit, the student should be expected to:
- Apply the skills of data analysis to a given data set for information purposes.
- Write their own R extensions to solve a given statistical analysis problem
- Construct new knowledge about R based on what they have learnt.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Download the R software from the internet.
- Import data from any format into the R platform for analysis.
- Perform statistical analysis on the imported data
- Export the analyzed data to any document processor for purposes of reporting the results.
- Carryout further data analytics where necessary
