Course Unit Description
This course involves the study of official statistics, national systems of official statistics: general principles, data collection and the Statistics Act, principles of management in statistical organization and functions of a Statistician. It covers the topics like Introduction to Official Statistics, Survey Designs and Data Collection Techniques, Functions of a Statistician, The Statistics Acts, Management in Large Statistical Organizations, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and National Development Plan (UNDP).
General Course Objectives
On successful completion of this course unit, the learners should be able to:
- State sources of Official statistics
- Identify and define the different methods of collection of official Statistics.
- Explain the functions of a statistician in the different economic departments of an organization
- State the Statistics Act and its advantages in data collection
- State the Sustainable Development Goals and their Indicators

By the end of this course learners should be able to:

- Characterize various methods of collection of official statistics
- Apply various values and functions of a statistician to explain real life problems
