Course Unit Description

This course is a foundation course that introduces learners to the basic statistical computing concepts. This module covers concepts such as Data Description, Basic Statistical Concepts, Univariate Frequency Distributions, Graphical Presentations, Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion, Bivariate Frequency Distribution, as well as Introduction to Regression and Correlation.

General Course Objectives
On successful completion of this course unit, the learners should be able to:

  • Characterize various Data Descriptions 
  • Define and describe various Basic Statistical Concepts
  • Compute and apply various Univariate Frequency Distributions
  • Demonstrate the various Graphical Presentations
  • Calculate Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion
  • Compute various problems related to Bivariate Frequency Distribution 
  • Compute Regression and Correlation coefficients.

Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course learners should be able to: 

  • Understand the main aspects of describing a data set and understand basic statistical concepts.
  • Understand sources of statistical data and methods of data collection
  • Summarize different types of data using appropriate methods
  • Calculate different measures of location and dispersion and be able to interpret them
