Course Unit Description
This course unit introduces students to basic skills in netball, volleyball and swimming besides empowering them with competences to play, officiate and correctly demarcate the facilities involved in each.
Course objectives
By the end of the course, a student should;
- Provide brief history of netball, volley and swimming
- Identify and perform the basic skills of netball and volleyball
- Participate in playing and or officiating of the games
- Demarcate correctly the facilities involved
- Swimming
- Acquire various water skills required to safely work in water
- Acquire knowledge and practice of life saving swimming skills and techniques
- Identify the challenges and dangers of the water environment and their contribution to drowning
- Understand the procedures for pool water treatment and hygiene
- Plan and deliver swim lessons and coach sessions
- Appreciate the management and officiating of competitive events
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
- Display proper technique of freestyle, breaststroke, butter fly and backstroke movements over a given distance
- Display basic personal lifesaving swimming skills and techniques including procedures for water treatment
- Take a learn-to-swim individual through the basics of swimming at school and community level
- Coach and offer relevant feedback to swimmers and swim teams
- Participate in organizing and officiating given swimming events
