Course Unit Description

This course covers the concept of soil, important soil forming rocks and minerals, soil formation, soil classification, manures and soil fertility and plant nutrition.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the physical and chemical nature of the soil and soil in situ as it affects crop growth and production
  • Describe the process of soil formation
  • Examine the need to add manures and fertilizers in the soil
  • Describe important plant nutrients 
  • Describe post-harvest handling systems, agricultural wastes and its management.
