Course Unit Description

This course introduces the student on how companies can build Datta warehouses and utilize business intelligence for decision-making hence saving money and increasing profit. Several initiatives ranging from supply chain integration to compliance with organizational/government-mandated reporting requirements depend on well-designed data warehouse architecture. Therefore, the course introduces students to the main components of a data warehouse for business intelligence applications. This will include how a data warehouse fits into the overall strategy of a complex enterprise, how to develop data models, data marts useful for business intelligence, and how to combine data from disparate sources into a single database that comprises the core of your data warehouse.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course unit students will be able to;

  • Understand the benefits offered by computing technology in many different areas and the risks and problems associated these technologies.
  • Understand and determine the impact of the privacy laws on information security policies. 
  • Understand the issues related to intellectual freedom, intellectual property, and copyright law as they relate to electronic publishing.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students should be to;

  • Demonstrate an elevated consciousness of the nature and principles of ethics, including personal, professional and corporate ethics
  • Discuss and analyze the interplay between ethics on the one hand and law, society, politics, economy, justice, responsibility and honesty on the other.
  • Discuss issues relating to intellectual freedom, intellectual property, and copyright law as they relate to electronic publishing.
  • Discuss specific ethical issues raised by the ubiquity of computer and information technology in today's society
