Course Unit Description

The course is intended to introduce students to issues of managing the operations of an organization effectively and efficiently, while aiming at meeting the customer requirements which include; improved quality, minimal cost, better and service delivery and flexibility. In this course, students will cover; location decisions and facility layout, production systems, capacity/demand management, quality management and inventory management.


Course Objectives  

  • To introduce the basic elements and concepts of production and operations management
  • To give students the knowledge that will sharpen their understanding of the systems that govern the activities of manufacturing and service operations

Learning Outcomes       

On completion of this course, students should be able to

  • Develop production systems and make location and facility layout decisions
  • Carry out capacity planning and make demand driven strategies
  • Carry out project planning and be able to manage project quality and inventories.
