Course Unit Description

This course builds on the undergraduate Quantum Mechanics, starting with simple theories of probability, time-dependent perturbation and scattering. More advanced treatment on conservation laws and particles in interacting, Scattering theory and Lagrange Field Theory.

Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are to:

  • Describe the Heisenberg, Schrodinger and Interaction pictures.
  • Apply the Schwinger’s action principle & the canonical quantization rules.
  • Discuss the Green’s function in scattering theory.
  • Solve the Dirac equation for plane waves.
  • Explain Schwinger’s action principle in conservation laws.
  • Apply the Lagrangian field theory in a more advanced manner.

Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

  • Solve problems involving Heisenberg, Schrodinger and Interaction pictures
  • Apply the Schwinger’s action principle and the canonical quantization rules
  • Describe the Green’s function in scattering theory
  • Solve the Dirac equation for plane waves
  • Apply the Lagrangian field theory in more advanced concepts
