Course Unit Description
This course explores the major social science paradigms for analyzing relations among state; economy and the society. It examines the fundamental assumptions on to which the understanding of the social world is based. Specifically this course explores the role of the state in the economy and how these changes in this role affect the conduct of public policy. A key theme is the way in which states manage their economic development within an international context increasingly characterized by patterns of globalization.
Course Objectives
- To equip students with a general and systematic understanding of dynamic transformation of their respective countries.
- To equip students with sufficient theoretical tools and empirical knowledge necessary to manage varying economies.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to;
- Conceptualize state power and the rise of business in East African setting
- To assess issues of political economy from different theoretical perspective
- To distinguish between the regional developmental trajectories of the North and the South.
